...this is what the Audi mechanic I ran into said. They have normal maintenance intervals of 10K miles for oil and diagnostics and major intervals every 40K miles where they replace air, fuel, pollen, etc filters. 105K miles is the timing belt interval on these. He said to be wary of any with leaks as they tend to leak from the valve cover gasket and also the cam tensioner (?) gaskets front and rear. Auto transmissions tend to be more reliable but keep in mind they are sealed...so check for smooth shifting...if they shift rough could be torque converter problems = big money. Good luck out there.
